Headlight Issues
I have a 2007 RK Custom and I am having some headlight/running light issues. So here's the low down; last summer is when it started, I was riding and stopped at gas station, shut it off, and when I went to turn back on, no headlight and no running lights, but turn signals work and so does the brake light. I went to have it looked and the lights started working again. It happened a 2nd time after that and then after a while it started working again. It happened again a couple days ago and is sitting in garage trying to figure it out. I'm completely lost....I've checked grounds and they seem fine, bulbs look good, fuse is good, no loose wires at fuse box. The only thing I havent checked is ignition switch and I'm really not sure how to check if it's bad or not. Any direction would be appreciated or what I should do short of taking it to a dealership to get fixed. Thanks!!
wiggle the ign switch.
a hi watt bulb can burn the ign switch contacts- if that is the problem than you need to think about replacing the switch before you are 400 miles from home ( $$$).
or a handy Fella could bypass the ignition switch wiring and install other switches for the ign and lights.
you could also look at the fuse box- it could be corroded.
below is a pic of my fuse cleaning kit...dirty on left ( about 4 years old) and cleaned on right. scotchbrite pad to clean and dielectric grease for the legs.
I also cleaned the fuse sockets with a fine abrasive

this could be the tedious task of going through the wiring harness from fuse box to load.
I don't have a wiring diagram for your year- my 09 has a relay for the headlamp and spots- if yours has a relay, I'd check that as well as the connections in and out of it.
On the 09, this relay is on the fuse box and is same spec as the other relays and can be swapped to test.
you fuse panel may be labelled as to relay function.
