I have been using the windshield bolt for two years. No issues. The washer gives you a bigger surface so it won't suck through unless you wrench on it. The other thing is its the same torx size.

Thanks for all the input. Not near a harley shop to pick up windshield bolts. So sitting in my shed looking at it for an hour, here's what I did. Had an old plastic battery box. Cut a strip off about 3 inches long. Heated with a bic lighter just enough to bend into "s" shape, not melt. Scuffed up both surfaces with some sand paper. Placed s shaped plastic piece behind bolt hole inside of fairing. Used some jb weld plasti-weld to secure it. Drilled a hole through the plastic. Then had to grind the steel fastener that bolt goes into, just enough to match width of s shaped plastic piece. It worked! Holds tight. Gonna go ahead and do the other side also.
I appreciate every body who gave advice, and if this ever happens to anyone else, hope they can use this thread.
