Default Windshield squeeks, I think?

13 SG with the 7" windsplitter and I hear a rattling, squeeking sound. It only happens when the bike is under load and when I touch the shield it stops. I have taken the faring of several times to so if it is touching anything, and cant seem to find anything. I have put some weather stripping between the shield and the fairing and it will still squeek. Anyone else encounter this?

Are you tightening up the 3 screws tight enough? I know it sounds like a dumb question but hey you never know. I have had times when I thought mine were tight only to find they had loosened up. Check the 2 bracket mounting bolts on each side of the forks as well.

I had the same problem when i changed my bars..if you turn the bars fully left or right you should be able to reach the riser bolt.

You're onto something here, but maybe not quite there...check the threaded brass inserts in the inner fairing for the windshield screws...they have a bad habit of backing out and not allowing the screws to fully tighten down the windshield. Had the same problem with mine...the left insert had backed out maybe an eighth of an inch...so I epoxied it back in, so far, so good, however, HD sells threaded inserts to repair this...there is currently a thread on this forum on this specific subject on Page One...

The part number is 16585-96, and are $1.95 each. The slot on them is NOT for a screwdriver, it is to let them self-tap into the plastic of the inner fairing. You use a quarter by twenty bolt with a PAL nut to secure it into the insert, and insert the threaded end first.

I'll betcha that's what you're gonna find...simple deal.

I don't know if this will help but check your fairing mounting brackets. I had same symptoms and front left bracket was broken. I couldn't tell by looking at it. when I unbolted it I could see it opening up.Found a fix it kit on ebay for 25 bucks. No more squeak after that . Good luck

I've had a fairing squeak a couple of times and it was the windshield. Using caution to not over-tighten the three screws, the screws will back out slightly and then cause a squeak. Seems if you've had the windshield off to take the fairing apart a few times it's likely something else though.
