Default Stock Headpipes

Are the stock headpipes , 2009 and up(W/O Converter), Really that bad or a performance crusher compared to an aftermarket replacement? I have a 2009 Ultra with (currently) a set of V&H Big Radius pipes, Harley Tuner (the one you have to have the part to tune it) and I want to return it to something that won't kill what little hearing I have left. My idea was to bring it back to the stock pipes, and either use a set of monster ovals that came in an extra box, or some new take-off CVO pipes. I am not a hot-rod, rarely see the redline, and spend most of time between 2-4K RPMS. Engine is 96" with stock cams. Bike was set up with stage one. Will I notice a big drop in power with this combo?

I have a 2014 and just de cated my head pipe. It made it about 25% louder. It goes in for a tune tomorrow so I will see what it does on the performance side when they strap it to the dyno.

There's no performance losses going back to the stock '09. The '09 pipes were without the cat (non-CA bikes) and used 18mm non-heated O2 sensors. '10 and later had the cat and use four wire heated 10mm O2 sensors. So you cannot use later HD model pipes because the O2 sensors for them are not compatible with the '09 bikes.

Good to hear. the pipe going back on is the original 2009 headpipe. I bought a pair of take off CVO pipes that arrived a day after a tornado took my house and all my bikes. I was Going to install those on the original headpipe and roll with it.

I have the original headpipe (decatted) and CVO take off slip ons on my 2011 Limited. The sound is just a little louder than stock at most speeds. After tuning with Power Vision it pulls a lot better than stock. I don't know if you'll feel the difference from your V&H but you will hear it.

I'm sure the dyno would show some difference but I'm not sure it will be worse. Too little backpressure can be worse than too much unless you tuned the bike just right.

The '09 stock headers, 2-1-2, should create more back pressure than the V&H Big Radius pipes. When retuned, this should give you more low end torque and a quieter sound level.
