I'm really interested in this. I actually own and operate a part time Cerakote firearms refinishing business. I've been considering giving some of their high temp stuff a try.

I have a ceramic coated exhaust on my old air cooled VW. Exhaust heat is a big issue with those cars as well. I have had the exhaust 10 years and it still looks new and the ceramic works great for temp control.

Jet Coat on my V&H headers, heat shields and older SE Mufflers. Looks great, super easy to keep clean. No noticeable difference in heat though. For the the V&H true dual headers, eliminating the right side rear cylinder pipe made the the difference in heat.

Default Ceramic Coating Pipes

Re-installing heat shields or wrapping pipes coated with high temp ceramic shouldn't be a problem. Avoid doing this with any bright ceramic as it will overheat the coating and cause it to fail. Unless they're the type of shields with ample holes in them.

You'll notice problems with the bright coating by distinct dulling followed by little rusty blisters which is the pores in the coating opening back up. They'll eventually rust from there.

I have been searching for threads regarding coating head pipes. If I'm correct, there seems to be more negative comments about pipes coated with Jet Hot and other aftermarket coats then new pipes coated before ever installed.

It also seems to me that more people comment about not feeling any heat reduction with Rush True Duals. Most of the comments about Jack Pot X pipe tend to be positive regarding heat reduction.

I"m looking for the best heat reduction I can get. Any opinions out there?

I have true dual black/ceramic coat Rinehart set up on my SG. Not impressed. Only 6 years later, the header portion has rusted significantly through the ceramic coating, as well as other "hot spots" on the exhaust. Now I have to either get the coating done again.... Or buy new.

Interesting. Did you ever feel a reduction in the heat coming off the pipe?
I have a laser temp gun coming in the mail today. I'm going to get some numbers off my stock (cat removed) head pipe. Then if I can get others to do that we can do an unscientific comparison. Heck, I'm going to carry the darn thing with me and see if I can get some numbers from bikes that have coated pipes.

I have contacted a few of the coated pipe companies asking for before and after numbers, all say they don't collect that data. They do say it should be somewhere between 300 and 400 degree reduction. That just seems so hard to swallow.
