With or without the guard, you all some beautiful bikes. There is a RK Classic at work that has removed the engine and saddlebag guards and replaced the foot boards with forward controls. Along with some some extra chrome, it's a sharp looking bike.

I can easily visualize it without a crash bar, but it's not too hard to remove it on a Road King and you can decide right then if that's what you want. Seeing it in person is better than a picture, so take a moment and remove it. If you drop it in a parking lot and sustain damage, hey, it looked good with the crash bars off, at least before you dropped it, and that seems more important to you than people here 'giving advise'.

And to answer your question, no, bikes don't just fall over on their own all the time... owners infrequently drop them for a variety of reasons, like losing their footing or balance, but it only takes once. The good news is that the end result is only between you and your insurance company and no one here has to know.

Just curious, where in the world did you get that statistic?

Love the look without the crash bar but can't live without the highway pegs. I removed the rear guards and put the front crash bar back on. It literally takes 5 minutes to take it off, 3 bolts.

Thanks for the pics (those of you that have posted them)... Pretty much made up my mind to pull the ugly thing off. Much cleaner without it.

On a side note: I really cant believe all the folks posting that dropping the bike in a parking lot is an actual thing to worry about... I mean who has actually done this? Its literally the absolute last thing that would cross my mind.... Ive been riding for over 30 years and several hundred thousand kilometers (and maybe Im cursing myself here) but I've never once just fallen over in a parking lot...if I ever do it will probably be time to sell the bike LOL

Anyway - All I wanted out of this thread was to see what it would look like - not to start a discussion over who is able to stay upright. Thanks everybody for posting and if you have pics please keep 'em coming!

Keep the shiny side up!!!

Perfect - looks great! Has the street glide bag rails too; makes a difference

Well, speaking for others, because I've sure as hell never done that, nopenopenope, not me, but sometimes it's just one of those freaky things that has nothing to do with your ability to ride.

You're thinking about something, pull into the parking spot, neutral, turn off the bike, get off, don't put the kickstand down, step away, and...

It could happen.

Did you pull it and like it? I like the look without it for a clean look but I'm tall and NEED it to mount my pegs.

I'll admit up to that ... when I was a kid of about 18 I once rode off at speed on a bike without unlocking the steering lock. Now, that's a weird experience ... and, no, you cannot just ride around in circles either. It makes you realise just how many small adjustments you make to steering as you ride.

Basically, once my computer has spun its way through all the various permutations involved, I managed to stop the bike dead.

Unfortunately, I was never that good at Physics and did not realise what it meant was that my body was going to follow the path Newton's First Law of Motion had prescribed for me ... "an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction".

Luckily the bike had crash bars.

It's something you only tend to do once in a life ... but I only came to appreciate what a great mind Newton was many decades later. The naked Road King looks great, BTW.

I have, though, seen a guy's leg saved by Ultra-style double rear crash bars after being side swiped by an automobile.

The idea of removing the engine guard to make it look "better" is attractive to some, but the cost of needing it at a later time is too high. I frankly like the look.
