Ok, not an RK, but there is a partial solution...don't get chrome. I'm with you guys, I don't like the look, but I don't like busted off control levers and mirrors either, and sometimes **** happens. So, I got black, because I wanted it to visually blend into the frame as much as possible, instead of sticking out like a "style feature".

I recently upgraded to a 2012 FLHX from an '05 FXST, I agree that the engine bar is a tad bit of an eye sore... However, I also agree with it's usefulness if you dump your scoot. I have considered removing it, but I think I will go with a black powdercoat and see if that helps mask it's visibility. I think I might add lowers later down the road and would need them for that. Just my 2˘

That's the idea, gonna do it this weekend. I just see that the guards are attached to the saddle bag supports and I'm not sure if that is necessary to support the saddle bags. Anyone have an idea if this is the case or not? I am quite keen to remove them!

The saddlebag guard is required to support the bag and the exhaust for that particular design. Get the Street Glide saddlebag support which doesn't have the guard, but does support the saddlebag and exhaust. There are usually several on ebay.

Thanks Beary,

That confirms the worries I did have. I'll have a look at that option, but being in South Africa shipping usually costs more than the products are worth and besides from HD original parts which cost about 1 and a half times what they do in the US we are pretty much strapped for aftermarket options! But hopefully I find something around here...

Or the unthinkable happens and Moco makes their products affordablethis side of the pond! :-)

I just removed the front portion of the bag bar and left the bottom for the bags to rest on. The pins will help keep it lifted also. I went to Westlake and bought some black end caps to cover the holes in end of bottom bar---(at front of bags bottom).

Maybe you can tell by these pics if you blow them up, not sure. One is with stock leather hard bags and other is as it is now with hard abs bags.

Gotta love the versatility of the King!

I have no pic, but I say go for it! I'm keeping mine because my toes are on the highway pegs 99% of the time, and I want a set of lowers, but I agree it will look better. Lets face it, part of the reason we buy these bikes are for looks. If you don't want to fall over, then drive something with more wheels, lol. That being said, be f'n careful because if you tip it over you will be kicking yourself in the @$$!!!
