Looking good! The more of you guys that do this the harder it is for me to not! Honest opinion: how difficult and do you think the cost was worth the reward?

The conversion was not difficult, the most time consuming part was extending the wires. I opted to give my time instead of the money for a new interconnect harness. The 06 harness is one of the more expensive ones at $350+

I have about $1300 into the conversion + my paint. (Painting it myself) I wanted a RG when I bout the EGC, and have been kicking myself for not holding out. Prior to doing this, I was shopping to trade, and just couldn't justify the low trade in and the inflated pricing of the used RG's. My bike runs well, and is set up for my comfort, so a $1300 expense was worth it thus far. I still did not ride yet to see if I have all done correctly. Hopefully tomorrow after the last piece of the puzzle is put on.

Batwing parts and pieces will be up for sale soon, and that will fund my paint.

I think I might have to spend the money and rent a road glide for a weekend and see how much I love it compared to the batwing. Make sure I am 'all in' before I start down a road that long. I am loving the looks of the RG more and more, everytime I see one done up they grow on me. I can't wait to see your end result, your paint scheme sounds like it will make for a KILLER shark!

Still no signal bracket, but I did get my klock werks shield. Man this shield makes the bike!!!! It is sooooo bad ***!

Enough was enough, so I just bolted on the lower fairing bracket so I could get a test ride in. Yeah, I'm a happy camper! It feels so light up front, but I am feeling a slight squirmed feel from the front, not to worried about it as my front tire is badly cupped. I have a new tire here, just gotta get it mounted and balanced.

Seeing my bike now completed, and how much I am loving it as is, I am wondering if I shouldn't just paint the inner and outer deep cobalt (I have enough paint on hand) and the 2012 CVO swoop in brilliant silver. I could then use my batwing sale proceeds for a set of new bars and a scoowl. Not real sure yet, but thinking about it.

One thing I've learned is that it's not quite as easy to change shields on an RG as it is on a batwing, tired to put on the new KW and pushed one of those stupid well nuts through, ended up having to pull the outer off to get it back.
Anyway, here are the updated pics

If you already have matching paint I would paint it the same color it is now since it won't really cost you anything but your labor.
I'd then buy the bars and scowl and run it a season and see if you change your mind on the new paint scheme. Cause you never know...

Already has a cool paint scheme if you ask me.

Yeah those well nuts falling into the fairing. One of the first thing about every new RG'r does. It's like an initiation or something.

Looks good Steelerdude! Glad to see you didn't have too much trouble at all with this.

R_Einan - the conversion is really quite simple. Have you ever removed your outer fairing on a batwing? Everything is plug and play, especially if you get the Road Glide specific interconnect harness (this is the harness that lives inside the fairing).

If you've ever read a Batwing thread that talks about removing the inner fairing to have it painted, you're already half way there. Once all that is off, it's just attaching a bracket to the frame neck, and then installing a Road Glide inner and outer.

Proper planning is the key to this. The parts list that Steelerdude posted was put together by me, and it's very thorough. If you have any questions, we're all here to help.

The conversion tank is getting more and more crowded!

Nice thread!

I too am considering the conversion. I'm starting with a 2011 Ultra Police.

Will this make it even more difficult, or is it the same process?

I am considering buying an OEM takeoff unpainted inner fairing and gauge holder for $450. Is that a good price? My other option is after market. It seems almost double to stay OEM and can't quite justify the extr$$

Thanks in advance!
