I read a lot about other companies like BMW and Honda releasing updates for their engine control modules which are performed by dealerships at times of service. I've owned a few Harley Davidsons and I've never had one of these done to my bike.
Does Harley ever release updates for the control modules?
Harley has updates but usually to address specific problems. Auto manufacturer's have more updates with stricter emission tiers and other problems that arise in the field, then fixed and updates are released, so to not bother the customer they can wait til it comes in for service. If it is a safety related defect it will be a recall and customers are notified and scheduled to come in. I have 33 years with audi and have done thousands of flashes. Sometimes there are flashes that are only done if complaints are present. You always have the right to refuse but typically it is tracked at the mfgr. Mike
When I took my ultra classic in for the 1000 mile service they performed an update to the ECM. Not sure what it was for but the bike seemed to perform better after the service.
some dealer service depts are so clueless i wanted an update i had to print it off and carry it in to show them they looked like dear in the headlight,i found another dealer for the upload. many won't know or look for updates unless u ask.
