the "article" is about as informed and accurate as one of my posts on a thread.
More an opinion or a guess.
"dinner plate sized pistons"
Prior to the crankcase venting regs, cars and trucks ran road vents, solid tubes from the crankcase pointed at the ground.
If you watch old movies, you'll note that the center of the traffic lanes is literally painted with oil.
Harleys of the same vintage used the vents to oil the primary chain.
The oil would condense in the primary and then drip out of slots in the tins.
Worst was taking the bike off the jiffy in the morning and backing out of the garage, the rider would get a 6 foot long dribble of oil on the floor

every one I have ever built on break-in....ride it like ya stole it. A new bike, I would do the same. I never had any power loss or early mechanical failure do to breaking it in, use good oil, and maintenance ,maintenance, maintenance...= years of bugs in the teeth !
FYI...blow by in air cleaners is normal...crankcase has to vent. That's why on old bikes the unknowing would snivel and say " all those things do is leak "...it was there blow by filter dripping...........what it's meant to do.
