I have an older bike (2003 ultra) with a dakota digital oil temp gauge. I have never seen it over 225* even slow riding in the desert at 105* ambient temp. I'm not worried.

I sent an Email to Fuel Moto, this is the reply...

Good Morning Scott,

Normal operating temperature for your motorcycle would be between 260-320 degrees Fahrenheit. If you were to be stuck in traffic or idling for an extended period of time and you exceed 340 degrees I would personally turn the bike off to allow it to cool before continuing. Please let us know how else we could be of assistance!

The (2) upper fins of my rear cylinder are at 350°F when the engine idles only from the front cylinder, the engine oil is then at 220°F in the filling port and I measured 200°F on the outer casing between primary and the gearbox. I expect the bearing inside the clutch basket to reach 250°F, and this is why I'm using a 20W60 to see how it behaves.

Temperatures were measured using one type 'K' sensor and one IR thermometer @95% emissivity where the aluminum is sand blasted.

For info: polished aluminum was only reflecting 95°F to the IR thermometer @95% emissivity when the type 'K' sensor (in contact) measured 200°F.

According to my "digital hd dip stick" I run an average of 230 fully hot.
If I'm riding her hard over 80 - 85 mph or more then off ramp for gas and check it after it heat soaks I'll be near 280.

Moco suggested operating temp is 180-220.
I generally run around 215, once in while get higher than that, not much though.
I run an oil bud oil cooler though.
Biggest and most expensive that there is to my knowledge.
