I'm not so vain as to think I could never accidentally ride off with my kickstand down. In fact, it has happened to me before on some other bikes.

The last thing I'd want in that case is a kickstand that is locked and rigid. Would make a left hand turn quite unpleasant. I'd much rather have it able to be kicked up. Personally, I've long liked the Honda aproach, with a rubber finger that touches down first, flicking the kickstand up before the steel hits the road. It startles you, but you don't crash in the turn.

Don't disagree overly much with the electrical cut-off switch being connected to the kickstand. But they tend to be problematic, which is why they are so frequently bypassed.

Never needed a spring, but watched the video anyway. I kept expecting him to say,
"Ya, BaddaBingBaddaBoom", but didn't happen!
I was surprised a little to see how the same spring worked better just after cleaning and greasing the pivot. Maybe some are buying springs when they just needed a cleanup?

Install the spring correctly, and you won't need to stretch it.

WOW who knew it was that easy! Thanks for the video. I never realized that taking it apart was so easy until I saw that video. I'm going to go buy ANOTHER spring just so I can do it right and clean all that crap up.
Thanks again

Came across this thread after an episode with my kickstand last week had me doing some research. Realized my stand was down at about 50mph in luckily a slow sweeping left turn. No idea how the hell it happened so have to assume my little boot flip didn't kick it back. Scared the ever living hell out of me as I was worried it was going to catch and throw me. Same thing happened yesterday with a buddy on his new breakout.

$80 to help with that and to stop the unnerving roll forward is worth it to me. I don't want to worry about a thing with my bike when I'm out riding, except these hyper aggressive cagers here in NOVA.

I met one one night that left me very disappointed, it had been stretched out and rendered useless.
At least for me!

I have the same feeling. My bike rolls forwards enough to make me double check it and be very paranoid about it. I make sure the jiffy stand is all the way out, lower the bike on it, then turn my wheel to the left to make sure it is on the stand and the stand is extended all the way. What really bothers me is how easy it is to push the bike and have the kickstand move some. This is on a new bike mind you with a fresh spring. Yeah, I'll spend the money just to know my kick stand is all the way forward and not sloppy.

I found it for 69 bucks and free shipping on Amazon.

Been riding Harleys since 1974 - you get used to the jiffy after a while!
