I just had 1K service done. 300 with so called hundred dollar off for buying bike there. I just had it done on my 2014 Limited now my Breakout is due for the same. I can afford it but makes me so mad about a 300 dollar oil change.
Hell I get the oil changed in my airplane for less.
The one and only time in my life I had the dealer service a new vehicle (I was building a new house and they sent me a free service offer) They left the pan plug loose. I won't even have them do it for free.
If they do service right and that is big if and depending on price might be worth it to do first one. $380 is a little high . It does not void your warranty to do yourself .
He must have been wearing a dress when they gave him that $380.00 quote. Yikes!

You should get more than an oil change for the 1K service.
I've always found it surprising that A&P's generally make so much less than dealership mechanics.
Now I plan to do my own service work. Especially after I found pipe dope and chewed up o-rings when I did the 5000 service.
The pipe dope is added to the drain plug threads at the factory. All the drain plugs have it. I clean the plugs and add a dab myself during oil changes. I figure if the factory thinks it is worthwhile to do so why not.
The orings are sacrificial. Installing and removing a drain plug can tear an oring. Seeing a chewed up oring upon removal of the drain plug is not unusual.
I replace the orings every oil change because they are cheap. There is usually a chewed oring or 2 every oil change.

On my '03 fatboy, I would have a chewed up o-ring every time. I was torqueing the plug to the top of the torque specs. One time I switched to torqueing the plug to the bottom of the torque specs. At the next oil change the o-ring looked brand new. From then on I always torqued to the bottom of the spec and never had to replace an o-ring again.
