Default What size windshield do you ride with

When I got my EG last month it had the standard tall 11" (i believe) clear windshield. I bought a 4" smoked ws only to find it's really for looks and blocks little to no wind. I'm considering either an 7" or 8" shield. I'm 5'11". Will this size help any to deflect wind from completely blasting me in the face?

The traditional rule of thumb (I've been riding with a windshield for over 40 years, but not the same one!) is that your shield should be nose high. Even among other riders who are 5' 11" tall, your seated height may not be the same, so optimum shield height for each will differ.

That's a rule of thumb I had forgotten about. I know with the stock OEM 11" shield that it runs taller than nose height for me. I'm thinking maybe the 8" might be the best of both worlds. A little wind protection off the face and ears and still have sight visibility.

Perhaps go to your local dealership and demo a windshield?

I cut the bottom ( hidden) edge with a rotozip ( dremel/jigsaw) to desired height.

I swap seats alot so I have 3 windscreens of different heights.

I like the top of the screen to appear to intersect the road about 40' ahead.

that gets the bugs and grit to sail over my head

it gives me enough windscreen so that i can tuck into it in crap weather- or lean back away from it when the weather is fine

I usually pay about $35 for a stock take off windscreen.
The Harley Lexan is very, very tough. and optically quite good

I'm 6' tall, and I run a 7" Freedom Shield on my SG. IT could easily be an inch or two taller and I would have plenty of clearance to look over it, but I don't need any more height with the recurve.

6' 6" and have custom shield from Cee Bailey's with a 26" height at headlight cutout. Original shield made my head bob around due to having a police seat adding height. No bugs and I can still see over it

I purchased a 10.5" re-curve from clearview only to find it a bit to tall. Purchased an 8.5 re-curve and I love it.

I'm 5'10" and ride a 2013 FLHTK.

5'9" here with a LRS WindBlade that is supposed to be 8" but when I measure it from the center bolt is measures out at almost 8 1/2". My seat is lowered 2" from stock and I can still see over the shield which is about nose level.

Everyone is different as far as shield heights go and it's usually trial & error until you find the correct height for you.
