I own an '05 Electra Glide Classic with about 4,100 miles on it. I just tried to start it and it acted like it wanted to start at first but then began making a fast clicking sound. I tried a 2nd and 3rd time with the same result. I think I started in in the usual way. Did I do something incorrectly? Does anybody have an idea what is the problem? If so, can I fix it?
Was it a clicking sound coming from the starter? If it was try jumping it off, remember turn off the car engine when you do they put out to much juice, sounds like you have a weak battery?
Charge your battery, and after it is charged take the negative lead off and check if there is voltage between the lead and the battery. if there is voltage you have a short somewhere.. How old is it? time to change maybe? ..Mark...
Either weak battery or loose connection. If your scoot has been parked for the winter without a battery tender, you may get away with charging it. Otherwise, trip to the stealer time.
NOT recommended pulling the cables off when running.
If charging system is working a voltmeter across the battery
terminal will show the charge rate (normally 13.6 to 14.5 volts depending on rpms).
Pulling the cables can send a reverse voltage spike backwards into the ignition module or
to the ECM on fuel Injected models.
But the clicking could be because of a discharged battery or a bad connection.
Start there first and then let us know what's going on.
