That sux. I see riders on crotch rockets and bikes without bags leaving the helmets on the bike somewhere all around post. I can't imagine if my tour pack got broke into and it got gone. If you are in the military and on post, you are screwed. The bike stays parked until you get another helmet, lol. I hate a fukin thief.
I lock my carbon lid in my bag...if I wear my older helmet , just leave it on the seat. Never had one stolen...
Most retail outlets have cameras on the parking lots..ask them to review the data fod that day...
Here is what I use. Can be found for closer to 5 bucks. Resettable combo, padded. I keep in a bag, when needed I get it out and lock 2 helmets easily to anything - bars, guards, you name it.
Damned thieves.
I've never had a helmet stolen, but California has a helmet law so I've wondered what happens if you walk out and the helmet is gone. Can you ride to the nearest motorcycle store and buy a new helmet without being cited? Or are you expected to have someone drive who knows how far to come get you, take you to a motorcycle shop and then buy one?
If I was local, not that big a deal, but what happens when your 50, 100 miles from home and a ride?
I use the same cable lock for my jacket and helmet that I use for my skis. It rolls up nice and tight when not in use and gives me a little piece of mind while dining, shopping, whatever. Aside from the inconvenience of suddenly being without a helmet, it's a lot cheaper than having to buy another $200+ helmet.
luckily I have not had a helmet go missing. I have an old helmet that I leave in the open and the nice one in the tour pak. Hopefully that one is the one stolen.
I think it would be really icky to wear another persons helmet, and who would ever buy a used helmet, that is silly to me.
Sometimes I think they steal for the sake of the thrill and they got that biker. Who knows, but I think all thieves should lose a limb when caught stealing, publically. Let everyone one know what happens when you take something from someone else.
I doubt that would ever happen, our government would be limb less if that law passed.
