Well, after renting just about the entire HD line, my hubby has decided that he wants to trade in his 05 WideGlide for a Road King - 05 or 06. He really enjoyed riding it and wants to put on a lot miles with a little more comfort (he's an older fart!). Anyhow, from all of you - anything in particular that is a must for a Road King besides louder pipes - which, have heard, VH are the way to go? I know, trade out the stock seat, but since the thing has just about everything on it - what else?
Thanks....I always value everyone's opinion here which has helped me make better life, I mean HD decisions!
In addition to the stock seat, the bars have to go. They are extremely uncomfortable on long rides unless you have arms like an ape. After about two hundred miles he will hurt so bad between the shoulder blades that he won't be able to move his arms, especially if he is an "Old Fart" like some of the rest of us are.
I would also go with the RK Standard for the locking hard saddlebags. I like being able to lock things up.
By the way, are you going to step up to the WideGlide? It seems such a natural transition.
I would add a drivers backrest as well, it makes a huge difference in comfort for us old farts, of course I really like my Rinehart exhaust too. If it doesn't have a hydraulic clutch, I would add an easy boy clutch if it's an 05, I think the 06's have one from the factory. Hope this helps some.
nope, actually I was thinking of trading my Sporty in for a Softtail...I like the wider tires on both front and back. Makes me feel a little more 'secure'.
The big tires is what Arleen liked about the softails over the Lowrider she had. She doesn't like the ElectraGlides because the frame is too wide in the seat area.
definately the rider backrest, its a must and like bill i also like the locking hard bags on the standard. but to each his own. i'm a chrome junkie personally so lots and lots of chrome....sorry skip...lol
