Okay, I have a 2007 Road King Custom. I owe about $11,500. I've been contemplating on trading for an older bike. I'm looking at a 1993 Dyna Wide Glide with 36,000 miles on it for $8500. The stealer said they would give me $14,500 for the King. I miss having a carbed bike and don't even care about the 80 ci evo. If I wanted 150 hp at the rear wheel, I would buy a KTM Superduke. Money is one issue, since I took a pay cut, and wanting to work on my bike more is one, and just having an older bike to keep the old stuff alive is one more. With all the electronics and EFI on the King, it's kind of intimidating to work on. I love my Road King but as I said, I miss having a carbed bike and I also think the Dyna would fit my 6'2" 205 lb frame better and I would love it just the same. I know it's obviously up to me but I figured I would see what you guys think.

Sounds like a win win situation to me. My only concern would be how badly the dealer raped you on the trade in but it sounds like that isn't an issue. Some here would see it as a downgrade, but you have to do what's best for you and what you want. I'd do it if I were in your shoes.
Well, if I read it right, you'll get 14,500; you owe 11,500 so you'll clear 3,000 which puts you on the 5 year-old bike for 5,500. Not a bad deal to me. Service life should be at least 10 years so you have at least a happy half decade in front of you.
Size-wise you have to make your own call. 6'2" doesn't tell the whole story. How much is legs and how much is torso? What kind of reach do you have? Do you ride upright or slouch? Are you going to have to put new bars and a seat on the bike to get it to fit you, or is it all set up now?
Personally, I've come up through the mechanical ranks and I'm pretty happy having fuel injection and such. I don't get nostalgic about carbs (or chains, or kickstarters.) But if you think you'll enjoy it, then go for it.
Thanks for the advice guys. Well, hell, I guess I have a 33' inseam, and I don't know about torso, I have a long reach, I just figured I was pretty normal, HA! . I guess I feel like I'm hunched over on the RK, especially after I put the new handlebars on. I might put new handlebars on the WG. It has the mini apes that come stock on it now. I planned on changing the seat too but no big deal. I do agree with the ease of EFI and carbs can be touchy too. Who the hell knows!!!
My last bike was a 99 roadking, its a much more upright sitting position, a bit smoother, but not all that..
I put some apes, 12-14 inchers and it helped soooo much with my back as i was leaning over all the time, and im 5-11 32 inseam.
long story short, it was carbed, and ran strong, i am not used to the fuel injection it cost more, to tune, idle is much higher, and response is just getting back what it should feel like after the stage1 kit.
If you cant tell i loved the king, but just before I wrecked it I was feeling the need to switch, and my life wasnt warrenting the bagger as no time to use it..
Now I have the Bob and it really is fitting so far..
To me any bike can be made comfortable but what fits your life?
fuel or carb, to me i take what comes with the package,
8500 for a 93 seems a bit steep, 36k isnt the end of the world, but it is used.
for a comparison, i looked at a 99 fxdx for 8500 with 7k and wound up with my bob with 400 miles for 10,500. your market may vary.
Hell, you could sell your custom private for 14, 500 and shop...
Sounds like a GREAT deal to me number wise. This is coming from a guy who has been in the Auto Business for 29 years and I know my numbers. Plus you're trading up to the coolest model ever built (IMHO).
If money wasn't an option, you really NEED both bikes. I will eventually add a RKC to my stable for those long trips.
Where the hell do you live man? That's an awesome deal on the robert. I will give you another example from a different dealer, 93 fat boy with 48,000 for $10,995, 2000 Wide Glide 27,604 mi for $10,995, I mean what the hell? Thats in Alexandria, MN and I live near Fargo ND. I just looking at all the dealers within 100mi and it's all the same. No good deals, just steals. I'm sure they would turn around and sell my bike for $17,500 or something.
Interested in a clean custom painted chromed out 03 Lowrider with about 10k on it and babied? I've got a buddy that would love to work out a good win-win trade for a RK. PM me if it's possible.
Is it really a 1993 WG, or was that a typo? If it's a '93, I would say you could get a significantly newer model for nearly the same money. I bought my '02 this past August, with 14,000 miles on it, for $9,900.
