Default Newbie Adjustable lifter question

I just installed a new cam kit from FM. TW-555, woods lifters and FM adjustable pushrods.

While the verdict is still out in the TW-555 in the 96 inch 07 Ultra...... I have a question on the adjustment of the pushrods. First time dealing with such. now the written instructions stateyd 4 full turns after no slack. While the FM video mentions 4 turns and 2 sides. From what I can make of it 4 turns puts you right around stock pushrod length. Strangely enough my rockers and heads (with 53k on them) sound about as noisy as they did before the upgrade. My thinking is that with 4 turns did give me the same length.

Now that I have the adjustable, can I add one or two sides to them to adjust or squelch the top end rattle? I think one rocker is a little louder than the others, but without opening the top end, I see now way to know which one is the culprit. Do I just guess and adjust one a turn or two more and see how the noise is? Surely there must be a better way without opening the top up.

Thanks in advance.

I went 4 full turns and 4 flats (sides as you say). Mine seemed to noisy per the video specs as well. I'm running the 222's.

Question, stock or FM Lifters? 4 full turns is 24 flats, this should be for FM lifters. For stock lifters it would be 3 turns and one flat. From this one can deduct that the lifters have different travel lengths and then different adjustments. If you are adjusting 4 turns on stock lifters that would be too much.

There really is no guessing. Though they may seem the same length, the stock push rods and adjustable once adjusted would be different lengths for after market cams.

The only way to know you have them adjusted properly is to start over with all of them and adjust per the instructions. Adjusting one flat here or there will only get you into trouble.

Per the FM instructions, after running the rod down into the base, you adjust to 0 lash. This means the rod will not have any slack in it and will be touching a fully extended lifter and rocker. From 0 lash you make turns for 19 flats(or sides) which will adjust you into the middle range of the hydraulic lifter. You do this for all 4 rods and you will be good to go no guessing. If you still have a lot of noise the problem could be something else.

Pretty sure FM pushrods are 32 tpi. If they say to set them at 4 turns and 2 flats, they're aiming for .130 depth.

That is what I had thought, but the instructions that came with the FM rods said 4 turns only. I think the 2 flats would help quiet it down.

Like I said, I originally went with the 4.2 turns but seemed kind of noisy so I added 2 flats for a total of 4.4 = .141 depth. Pretty sure you can go up to .150 in depth so up to 4.5 turns.

Original post states woods lifters with FM rods.
They look like Smith Bros. Did not see TPI but would be easy enough to measure. I do not think that not following there instructional Video ( if it's their video) would do you any harm. All you are doing is positioning the plunger in the lifter, by lengthing or shortening the pushrod. The more turns from zero lash pushing the plunger further into the lifter, this reduces the amount of oil needed to keep the lifter fully expanded if the lifter is bleeding off oil faster than the oil can be replaced. This will keep the valve train tight eliminating ticking.
Call FM and ask for tech and speak with them,

According to the loose info included with the FM kit, the Smith Bros / FM push rods are 32 TPI (assuming someone at FM highlighted the correct part of the Woods lifters instructions found here , which I am sure they did.

If I did my math correctly, to achieve the .130 upper limit that I extend the pushrods after zero lash

I.E .031 inches of travel per turn (for 32 tpi pushroods) divided by 6 flats = .0051666667 per side times 25 =.1291668 or 4 turns and 1 side. Still off from the 4 turns and 2 sides mentioned in the video.

Nevertheless I will call FM in the AM before I open her back up again.
