I'm more than capable of riding my bike, enjoying nature, the freedom, blasting my tunes and hearing my pipes without the added risk and chore created from idiots on the road.

At 27 I can't picture a time when driving was really any easier and when people were less distracted. Did such a thing exist in the past?

The idiots have always been out there, but I agree there seems to be a lot more of them these days. I'm 58 and when I was young we seldom had issues with cagers, most of our close calls were self inflicted.

Every time I see a texting driver I tell myself this is why I just switched to a full face helmet. Not that it will save me but I feel like I have a better chance of survival. Sad part is it doesn't matter what we wear or how many lights we have if they are looking down texting they won't see us. Maybe loud pipes do save lives.

I think one of the reasons we get our right of way impinged on is that drivers look quickly, see the bike, but because it's small they think it's further away than it really is. They also don't take into consideration the speed at which our two vehicles are converging. We don't have to be speeding, it's just that we LOOK like we're further away than we are because they don't take the time to actually OBSERVE the approaching bike. I've started doing a little weave when approaching cars that may be turning in to my path, hoping that the moving head light will get their attention a little better. I've also added aux lights to my Deuce to give not only a bright spot on the horizon but, a different pattern to the lights to get their attention.

Of course that doesn't explain the numb nuts that try to merge into the lane that we already own.

I could see the truth behind that. This guy must have thought he had all the time in the world or he looked at the car behind me. He didn't actually see me until I was past him.
