Whats the opinion on de-catting the factory header or going to aftermarket head pipes on performance? Here's my situation, I've got a '15 FLTRXS that I put RCX mufflers on & I'm either going to de-cat or go with Rush HO duals or V&H power duals! I will most likely add an A/C & tuner to complete the stg 1! I can do the de-cat for all but free & pipes are going to run me just under $500! What do you all think is there a performance edge to the aftermarket pipes at this level!
Thanks
Troy

Easiest ( cheapest ) way is to buy a set of stock pipes that have been decatted ( on EBay ) and change it out. Or go to Fullsac and buy a Sportpipe. Lots cheaper than your other choices.
If you have any rallies near you check out American Custom. They do a swap of you stock head pipe for a decatted one. I paid $199 installed a few years ago. I think they are a little more now but not by much. You can also buy and exchange online. Second choice would be the full header system from Fuel Moto.
There is only about a 1.8 HP power gain between a custom header and a header with a gutted cat, so if you can get the cat out on your own or for cheap that would be the was to go.
I decatted mine and had no issues other then getting the cat out itself. I used a chop saw blade on a grinder to cut it in half and then air chiseled it out from there. Anybody who says they used a paddle bit didnt get it all out only put a hole in it, And driving a stake thru it only smashed it onto itself. Cutting it was the only real way to get it out properly. Then tig welded it back together. Runs fine with no issues as of yet.
There's an add in the touring section here. Gent will decat for 100 just ship him your pipes. Best deal out there IMO. I prefer his weld as its really hard to tell it was done.
