Ride it in good health
My bikes have also always "clunked", but this is more like two metal rods banging against each other.

Like to thank everyone for their advice, sounds like changing the transmission fluid might be the way to go, now all i have to do is learn how to do that.

So far, in my 2012 Tri, I've tried Amsoil Severe Gear, Harley Syn3, BelRay, Golden Spectro, Lusas Oil and RedLine. The RedLine seems to have worked the best for me and I will soon change back to it. That has not been the case for all of my friends. Some prefer Amsoil, some prefer Golden Spectro, almost nobody recommends Syn3. It seems to me that every tranny is unique and if you can find something that works for you stick with it. I know I'm going with Redline.

Although my '13 Limited does it, my '13 TG does it except louder. I took it to the dealership and they said it was the compensator. Wasn't satisfied so I took it to another dealership and was told the same thing. Then I thought that I would see what an independent's diagnosis would be. Summary: 3 answers and all were the same and there was no problem.

My TG would be especially noisy if I let off the gas and immediately re-applied power. We came to the conclusion that the louder noise might stem from the TG being a heavier bike.

No need to ask why because I don't have a clue. When in neutral and you are backing your bike out for a ride, hold in the clutch. After your ride has warmed up, when you put it in gear there is no 'clunk'. Also will do this on my other Harleys.

My 14 does it pretty loudly. So far we have changed tranny fluid, primary fluid, went to a Baker manual adjuster and checked the compensator shims. no better.

My 2015 Road King with just under 800 miles on it clunks at every shift into every gear. My C50 Boulevard that I traded in for this was silent, but you could feel the shift occur. This bike? The car driving next to me can hear it. Freaked the wife out, she thought it was falling apart. It sounds like 2 metal rods banging into each other.

It has been said many times on this forum that you should get the factory service manuals. Changing the tranny oil is simply a matter of removing the drain plug and the filler cap, so. it should be easily within your abilities if you have any mechanical aptitude at all. Good luck.
