Default Back/Shoulder Pain on long Trips

I am new to the Trike world and came over from my 2018 Street Glide and have noticed after riding for solid hour and longer, my upper back and neck area starts bothering me, it’s like a knot develops in that area.

I have tired using the factory adjustable backrest, but I can’t get it to go back any further and it pushes me too far forward where I feel like I am almost on the tank instead of being positioned in the seat like I would be without it.

I can’t get the backrest to go back any further using the cable lock adjustment setup that was supplied with it. I thinking the backrest may need to be physically bent a little further back to allow me to be positioned in the seat properly.

I have asked several folks about what their recommendations would be and I get answers like try a different seat, higher bars, etc. I have the stock seat and backrest that came with the bike when I bought it.

I have logged over 350,000 miles and never had pain in my back after a long ride like I have riding my Trike. I know there has to be others out there who have experienced the same issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had that problem on my Limited which sits the same as your bike. I solved the problem by changing out my handle bars.

Yep, that is usually the symptom of the grips in the wrong place...big question is, where is the right place?

Here is how to find out for sure, and save the game of musical seats or handlebars.

Handlebars!

Proper rise, reach, width, and grip angle can make your bike/trike a real "mile-eater"!

I can't stand how the stock seat puts you right on top of the tank,I did a Corbin seat with the back rest. Then the bars I went with Khrome Works 2+2 Narrow sweepers. They also make a wide version.
Also get some Highway pegs if you don't have them ,it's gives you the option to stretch your legs out. The changes add up but you are gonna run miles and keep it then comfort is the name of the game.

I say do some stretching of your back and neck. Not just before a ride, but all the time. Then any position won't bother you as much.

The stock seat on my '16 RGU made me feel like my nuts were on the tank--way too forward for me. Put a HD Tallboy seat on and it made a significant difference as it moved me back some. Even a little more back would be even better but I don't want to get into spending megabucks on a seat. Also,I lowered my shift levers. That really helped also. And I put a Grasshopper brand non-adjustable backrest on and it feels really great and BEST of all it sells for only $85 and that includes the mounting bracket. *** HD prices on backrests and mounts.

On my previous'13 RGC I thought the stock bars were OK at first. Then one Sunday rode to Rabbit Hash in N.KY, 2+hours on the twisty 2 lane, not any problems. But coming home I was in more of a hurry than I was going so I jumped on the slab for the return trip. After just about one hour, give or take a little, of riding with hardly any movement of my arms my shoulders were killing me. Put different bars (HD Heritage style) on that had a little more height and a little more reach and that did the trick. No more shoulder pain even after long periods riding the slab with no or very little arm movement.

It needs a picture of the OP on his trike.

How can you tell without seeing the problem that new bars will fix it?

I couldn't ride 40minutes until I pushed my bars forward which considerably raised them.

Now it has to be cold before I feel a slight knot.
