I'm wondering how the trike saddle bags are holding up that were attached by other means then drilling holes? I'm thinking of using some 3m dual lock? Any updates would be appreciated. Thanks
For the price your paying for the saddle bags, I would install them per instructions. If your not confident enough, have a dealer do it. Problem with Velco is bags don't fit tight and are susceptible to theft.
I’ve had mine mounted with dual lock for about 2 years. I used type 250 and 400 black rubber based adhesive. This is the strongest combination with a waterproof adhesive. You need to apply to a warm surface with a lot of pressure. A roller helps. Removing the rubber grommet on the back of the bags gives you a flat metal surface for mounting. Once the adhesive cures you can mount the bags. Do your best to line them up where you want them. It is really hard to remove one and reposition.
Mine have held up with no movement in spite of the occasional step on from my passenger. We don’t carry a lot of weight in them. Yes they are pricey but can be found online at dealers who can still discount. The drilled mounts do not lock so theft chances are no different. Given the cost, I wanted to be able to keep them if I ever move on to a different trike. Drilling makes them permanent.
I had an old set from my '05 Ultra that I added to my trike. Couldn't bring myself to drill holes and worried about sticking velcro to the paint so I added 6" 3M paint protector film 1st then tried Velcro top and bottom of the bags. (glued a piece of plastic to the back of the the bags to give a nice flat surface) It worked but not well if pulled straight off. So I tried the velcro duel lock type. It was actually worse. But then I tried using it with the loop (felt side) of regular velcro and it works best. So far anyway. You really have to tear it off. FYi, that section of the inner fender has a slight curve to it so you can't just put a strip down the length of the bag. The thickness of the velcro holds it just enough off the fender. I would love to get the new style bags but a bit too pricy. These will work for as little I have to use them.

I just bought a new 23 trike & i didn't want to drill holes in it. Like you said, once you do that then they go with the trike when traded. Thanks to all that have responded.

I have a set of those same bags sitting empty. Have thought of using them like you did.
In the end did you leave the plastic affixed to the back of the bags?
They always sagged on my RKC crash bars and anything you kept in the drink holder got hot off the exhaust.

I felt the synthetic leather wouldn't hold the glue well. Added rivets top and bottom to make sure plastic never separates from the bag. I have these polished SS inserts as a back up plan if the Velcro doesn't work out. I would use polished SS button head screws so it wont look too ugly when the bags are off.
I'm on the hunt for some plastic to use as backing. Thinking of the side of a office trash can [ I have a half dozen extra] glued to the leather with some real sticky double sided tape then riveted to the bags.
Heading over to amazon for some velcro.

The question I have is why do you have something against drilling holes for the mounting of these bags when you use an adhesive that will likely take the paint off when it is removed ??? Just curious , but each to their own.....
I think you can purchase a new mounting kit for the bags to put on another trike.
