License Plate Light/Bulbs
Was checking over the Trike for PA State inspection and found the plate light not working, bulbs were burned out and corroded in the socket (assume from water infiltration)
Went to remove the assembly and found the engineers made it a little difficult. The screw to remove the bulb assembly are small Allen head screws and you need to stand on your head if you are going to remove them without removing the bracket and bulb assembly first.
1. You need to remove the inner panel on the trunk lid (4 screws) # 31
2. Remove the 2 nuts holding the chrome bracket assembly with bulb holder.
3. Un-clip the wires from the trunk lid and un-clip the connector.
4. Slide the assembly out far enough so you can remove the Allen head screws easily and remove the bulbs. # 1
5. Put some dielectric grease on the sockets to prevent corrosion and make removal easier next time.
6. The plastic bulb assembly is only $25.00 so if you trash it the cost to replace is reasonable from a Harley Parts perspective. # 30 There looks to be a LED part but not for domestic use, $70, do not know if it would fit though.
7. Plug the wire back in and check that the lights are working.
8. Reverse the procedure for putting everything back together.
9. Took me about 45 minutes to do, now that I know how it all comes apart and goes back together, would take about 15 minutes.
Hope this helps someone else who may have burnt out bulbs.
NOTE:
The above information, while credible, is worth what you paid for it and should not be considered gospel.
Do due diligence, research and have a H-D Field Service Manual before working on your bike.
You will probably have many opinions and suggestions presented; make sure you research the person providing the helpful information as there are some who provide good information that is useful and some who speak out of other orifices with gibberish. You will figure out this quickly.
Do you have a CD license plate light on your Tri Glide? Post part number if you do - thanks.
