Sometimes we get the two wheeled riders commenting on how they would give up riding before they would ride a trike. Which is fine with me of course, but they act like we are a bunch of woosies.
Yesterday, on our way home from Myrtle Beach, hubby and I stopped to gas up and take a little break. He backed his bike next to two bikes in front of the store and I pulled along side of the curb next to the parking lot. I got off the bike and noticed George talking to both of the bikers. They turned around and looked at me and smiled. OK, wonder what stories George was telling them. Anyway, I went over to the store and these guys were patched 1%er's. Even had 1% patch on front of their Jackets. They were southern "something" MC out of NC. But I sure saw the 1% "thingy". They were checking out George's bike with the badge on front and talking up a storm to him.
When I asked what they were smiling about, one guy said he was going to get a Trike like mine real soon and he really liked it........so there "naysayers"

I'll have to admit that at one time I too was probably a naysayer. Now, I've never looked down my nose at anyone who rides a trike and I've never thought myself better than anyone who rides a trike. I just never figured it to be "my cup of tea" so to speak. Until I saw this bike in Sturgis this year:
This is without question, one of the most beautiful bikes I've seen in my life. Now, I know it's not the traditional trike but, it sure changed my opinion about trikes in general.
Even though I am still (thank you , Lord) healthy enough for a two-wheeler, my wife was absolutely sold on the trike when she first sat on it. Since then, her job has had her travelling overseas and left you-know-who at home with the trike. She has gone on a couple rides with me, and said she needs to spend some quality time with it, but her schedule simply hasn't permitted it.
In the meantime, I have taken two long trips solo, and just yesterday drove the 300 miles from my home to my company offices - half of that mileage through the rain. The trike is sitting out in the parking lot dirty as heck due to the rainy trip here. I have business meetings all week, then a ride back home on Friday.
I'll have "true" bikers tell me they *may* consider a trike if they get feeble enough - that's a common response. However, most people like the looks of the trike and ask about it. I learned to be self-deprecating about it as an ice-breaker and found that works. I'll see some "real" biker kind of roll his eyes, and I'll say, "Look - my Harley has training wheels!" When I back into spots next to a lines of two-wheel guys, I say, "Watch out, I take up two parking spaces." If I use reverse, I say, "Watch and be amazed. Bet your bike can't do this!"
Stuff like that tends to get people to laugh, and usually opens up a friendly chat. YMMV.
I'm not a 1%'er, I drink 2% milk so I'm more of a 2%! I never have experienced any trike bashing yet, I do get a lot of compliments on the looks and questions about the Tri Glide. I have been to venue's at the local dealer with a couple of hundred bikes and have never heard anything negative about the Tri Glide from the two wheel crowd, " of which I am still a part of"!
I can still ride two but chose three! Shattered leg that is screwed together and I just feel better not having to put to much stress on it! It never knitted well even though I drank a lot of that 2% milk...lol
