Default O2 sensor depth

Thee was a thread about how far the O2 sensor should protrude into the exhaust stream but i cant find it. It also showed using a paper clip to check the bung height and had some discussion about some manufactures not getting the bung welded on correctly.. Anyone remember where it was?
I seem to remember everything except how far the sensor should protrude.

Thanks Mike, thats not the one im looking for but helpful. Its in our TG forum somewhere and was about aftermarket headers possibly not having the right depth/placement of the bungs. My internet is so slow it is almost impossible to search it.

Ice,
Try and PM Wiz, I know he can tell you how to check. We've seen some problems with the Vance and Hines and Rinehardt headers. None with the the Fuelmoto header, so that's what we install if possible. Otherwise we modify the customers header if we can. My boss does all the fabrication, so I can't advise what he does. At the present time I've been working out of my house and won't be back to the shop for a couple of weeks. Hope this helps some.
Buddy...

From the Wiz: If the 09 style sensor is not at least 3/8" into the pipe or exhaust stream the 02 sensors will not read very well if at all during lower RPM's. The less the muffler restriction the worse it can be. The 2010 sensor works well with 1/4" into the stream. Stock pipes don't have an issue, only aftermarket or modified pipes are subject to this.

Is this the picture you are asking about?

Although this is the older style sensor you can see how this sensor was not installed deep enough, same goes for the newer sensor (touring 2010 and up)

The aftermarket manufacturers are getting wind of this and are fixing their sensor placement and bung weldment height. In this picture you will see the paperclip and a mark... the mark is how deep the bung weldment is so the sensor really doesn't get into the stream at all. The owner contacted the manufacturer and they pretty much told him to eff off.

Tip: don't buy old stock aftermarket pipes without checking the depth first. Fix the depth before you install or send them back.
