Default My arms ache!! Winding road trip.

Check out the attached picture of part of our Sunday ride. My wife and I did a round trip to San Diego County's Mt. Palomar Observatory.. Elevation gain of 5,600 ft., and more switchbacks than I can remember. Kept the uphill climb at the posted speeds. As anything faster I did not have the strength to keep the wheel turned. Also, any faster, and we would have outrun our visibility in the turns. God forbid I come around a blind corner faster than I could avoid a cyclist, cow, rock,...or worse yet a tarantula. Didn't keep a few sport bikes from passing me doing at least 60! Hope they had organ donor checked on their license...except the brain is not useable.

I GoPro videoed the entire trip. But, I am new at GoPro and got too much vibration and wind noise. My project for next few weeks is to work on both.

The TriGlide did great! The scenery was fantastic. And the nerdiness of the observatory was over the top. Oh...and there was a bit of snow in the shadows!!!

Looks like you all had a blast TG! That road looks like it would be a lot of fun to ride. Wish we had something like that here.

That's an awesome looking ride. If you're ever on the East Coast you ought to try the Dragon's Tail in Tennessee. It has 318 curves in 11 miles of road. Talk about working out the arms and shoulders, you can't lift your arms for awhile afterward if you ride it on a trike.

That's a great ride up to Mt Palomar... I haven't done it on a 3 wheeler but I have done it on a two wheeler many years ago when I lived in Chula Vista.

Looks like a cool road. We ride like that all the time being so close to the Rockies.

Rode the Dragon last year. It is nothing more than a lot of other twisty roads except for the hype. Fun to ride, but not the amusement park ride that it is billed to be.

Next month we are doing the Coronado Trail in Eastern Az. That is 90 miles of switchbacks and beautiful country. It is called the Devil's Highway.

I read the title of your thread "My arms ache!! Winding road trip", and I was going to respond "wahwahwah!!! Too Bad!". But I read what you had to say, and I found that the article was pretty good and very well worth reading. We plan on riding to Cali sometime in the next couple of years. While we're out there we will be looking for interesting places to go. Sounds like a nice ride up Mt. Palomar should be on our list. Thanks for the info.Ride Safe

That is a fun ride!

Been on it a few times on 2 wheels many years ago.

Wider handlebars and a Comfort Lift Kit make the twisties easier on the arms and shoulders.

Geezer,
Don't mean to hijack this post, Kevin mentioned wider handlebars above, is that a riser, or new handlebars, what did you do exactly, to make it more comfortable on the arms and shoulders? Thanks!

Please report back with pics, that's a ride I look forward to doing soon! Hopefully this fall. The wife and I are 30 days away from our week long trip thru Colorado and Utah.
Can't wait!
