Default Reverse Question

So far so good with the new Trike, everytime out it gets better. My question is when I back into the garage the spot I park in is a little tight. This will cause me to "bump" the Reverse button rather just hold it down until I'm where I need to be. Will this method be a problem down the road other than normal wear and tear? Thanks in advance.

Honestly I hardly ever use my reverse on mine. I usually just take me feet off the boards and push it back. It rolls very easy even up some incline. I know I'll be one of the unlucky ones that will have the reverse go out. I'll bet since I bought mine a little over 2 years ago I haven't used reverse more than 3 to 4 rimes. I know about the time the electric reverse goes out on mine there well be a geared reverse installed in it.

Default Reverse

I noticed we have several people checking out this thread. So I emailed my Sales Rep. He talked to Service and they say it should not be a problem. Of course it is possible to trip the Circut Breaker but I think we should be fine. I think with more practice I should be able to just back it in the 1st time. Ride safe out there.

Why back in?? Our driveway is uphill, I drive in forward, and let gravity back me out. Your (and mine) reverse motor is a series wound starter motor. Very high current and torque every time you hit the button. Not sure why your sales rep or the Service guy would tell you that.

Really no choice on backing in. I have to park between 2 cars. If I just pull in you can't open the doors on one of the cars. From what you are telling me it's probably a good thing I have an extended warranty.

Timbrr it's a legit question, don't have to explain yourself. Sometimes Screwball can be a crusty old fart at times. Take it with a grain of salt.

Hey Screwball. Just cause YOU think it should be one way doesn't mean that is the way it should be for everyone. If your not trying to bust people's ***** maybe your wording needs to change. You really do come off like a crusty old fart at times.

Saying that with all the love in the world tho...

I think we all have different requirements for reverse. My driveway also has a little down slope so I never use the reverse at home. A few times when I needed to back up an incline I found it a terrific option as it's too heavy to try to push. If it works for you use the thunder out of it. That is why it's there.

Not based upon any technical data. But, I would not use the bump bump approach on the reverse motor. Our wet clutch is happy slipping to control low speed. But in my humble opinion, the reverse motor would not be happy being tapped to reduce speed.

I would suggest backing up at constant speed, which is pretty darn slow, and once you get to the tight positioning then "Fred Flinstone" it.

Also, FWIW...I have found that by revving the engine a tad when in reverse it seems happier. This helps to keep the voltage up. As the high torque demand will draw more current, dropping the voltage, and thereby increasing the current. I had a few situations where I had to back up a slight incline, and the breaker popped. By applying some throttle, that no longer happens. As well as being smarter where I park, and avoid where possible parking where you have to back out up up a grade.

I think all of these replies have value. Not sure if the starter and reverse motor are the same size, windings, etc. The breaker is to protect the reverse motor, reving engine makes perfect sense. I try to use mine ever chance I get . Then I will know if I have a problem b4 warranty expires. Scary if I had to look back, while driving between two cars and pushing the reverse button and throttling up the engine. Sounds like a tricky maneuver.

Lol, you correct on this one. My wife's Vette is one of the cars so you can bet I'm always making sure I know exactly where I'm at.
