I have a 2007 Road King classic has 31,000 miles on it I bought it used a couple years ago Ive only put I thousand miles on it maybe. Ive always noticed it Seem to be running hot. I have an intake tab mufflers with S&S power tune duals And an FP3 tuner. Not much performance wise done to it. Im definitely running over the 230 mark the other day it was about 80° out and I was up in the 280s. Now thats what I am reading from my tuner information. Does anybody know what the FP3 actually reads from? Is that a bad reading from the tuner is that hot?Is the 230 the oil temperature? That Harley is talking about. Im afraid I am running a little too hot any help would be great On what to base the temperature off of. Thanks
2007's are the start of the Heat Monsters. EPA lean mixtures causes it. Go to NIGHTRIDER.COM for more info. Come on down here to Texas, I guarantee it's gonna get a hell of a lot hotter here. Just remember the MoCo test their bikes in the Arizona desert in summer. 203 at 80 degrees is nothing to worry about.
I ordered a oil temperature guage. I would assume thats probably the cylinder temperature too..I cant seem to find any proof of that anywhere though.Just trying to be safe. Im paranoid Of something going wrong. Had some noise the other day but I think it was my ears playing tricks on me I finally got it put back together after putting a custom fender on the rear and a bunch of other stuff so last two days have been my first rides this summer.
I put 92000 miles on my 07 and ran it pretty rich and did ok then put a 103HO from a 14 FLHTX on it cuz I got a great deal...Holy heat stroke it was hot compared to the 96”. I just installed a Ultracool fan assisted oil cooler and made a difference but still hot.
Yeah Ive been checking outoil coolers its up in the air between the Jag or the old charcoal. I think the ultra cool its going to be my pic I dont think Jack has a decorative cover its a single fan lower CFM. Ive also heard that synthetic oil runs cooler? Im running standard HD 2050.
Was that supposed to say crank sensor? Ive already replaced that a while back funny replacing that ended up costing me a ton of money because I pulled it out to take it to Harley put a small piece of rag in the holeAnd my buddy went to start my bike and sucked that piece of rag Into the crank case. I had to do a complete tear down just to get the rag out. The bike was running hot before the year down anyway.
don't know
but can tell you synthetic in air cooled engine power equipment like truck mounted carpet cleaning units will run cooler.
I know this because most of them use heat exchangers to heat the cleaning water and the water temps can be as much as 5% less compared to running non syn oil
(200 degrees vs 190 water temps)
due to less engine friction or cooler oil temps? I do not know .
But there is a measurable difference
