Default Spark plug hole cross thread?

Good morning,

So last night I was replacing my fluids as per usual, and when I was done, I went to do my spark plugs.

Front cylinder screwed out and all the way in by hand, easy.
The rear, however, gives me resistance about half way seated.

Because this goes in half way by hand before getting ridiculously tight, I am praying I do not need a mechanic to pull the head.

Has anybody run into this? I am hoping to buy a 12mm thread chaser and clean it up a bit? Or last resort, grind flutes in the old plug? Any help would be appreciated.

Before going the helicoil route, get a 12mm tap and thread chaser. Grease up the thread chaser and try it first. If that does not work, grease up the tap and run it through. I am betting the thread chaser will work and it looks like you only have to go about half way down the hole. When you get done, remove the other plug and spin the motor to see if anything gets blown out of the offending spark plug hole.

I agree, I would use a thread chaser first.

There are spark plug thread chasers just for that issue, do not use a tap thread clearances are different between the two tools. Once cleaned up remember the anti seize.

Also NEVER start a spark plug with a ratchet, ALWAYS start it with the socket by hand first. You’ll feel the bind immediately.

When you run a spark plug tap in the hole run a vacuum as close as you can
