Default 05' vs. 06' vs. 07'

Hi all, new to this forum. I'm debating between the 3 year models 05', 06' or 07'.

Can anyone provide specific differences between the 3 year models (outside of the obvious paint color difference)?

There is a local dealer that has new 05's in stock at a very low price compared to some used 05's that I've seen on "cycletrader.com" and "hdtrader.com". Curious as to whynew 05's would be discounted so much from a dealer, unless it's just because of old inventory.

I know the brakes went to Brembo at some point andthere's a larger (240mm) rear tire on the 07's. Outside of that I'd appreciate any info. on differences between the 3 year models - 05', 06' and 07'. Thanks in advance for the help.

2005 Hd started using the larger/beefier rear axles,2006 got the brembos and 2007 the tanks got larger (5 gals), and some have the 240mm rear. Not sure what else, but maybe someone else can chime in.

just like nightenforcer said. Get the 05 if it's cheap enough.

Thanks to both of you for the help, the information is very useful. I really like the 240mm rear tire, however I just can't justify spending $5k more for a bike just because it's got a bigger rear tire, bigger gas tank and upgraded brakes. Thanks again for the help.

Anyone else know of any major differences between 05', 06' and 07' model years that might justify this additional cost?

There have been improvements for every year, although IMO some have not been improvements. 2004 went to the 28 tooth front sprocket, an improvement that helps the VRSCs off the line. 2005 went to the solid 1" rear axle rather than the reduced to 3/4" at the nut side, an improvement that helps the stiffen the rear axle and reduce axle flex. 2006 went to the Brembo braking system, and improvement in stopping ability. 2007 went to the 5 gallon tank, an improvement in range.

All things have come at some cost though, the 28 tooth reduced top end. The 1" axle reduced ease of installation {more torque and harder to find replacement nut (come on, I had to find something. I don't think the 1" was a sacrifice at all)} The Brembo's lost in-house production and increased replacement/accessory costs. The 2007 went to a God-awful wide rear fender IMO.

Take your choice, there isn't a one I wouldn't own.

I agree that the wider fender and tire on the 07 is overkill. I would rather have an 06 with an aftermarket fuel tank. It would be lighter and have equal range with the 07.

Not to mention the increased transfer of HP to the ground. The 240 looks good but I wouldn't ride one over my '06. That is of course just my opinion.
