My wife is taking a MC safety course where she'll get practice ridinga Buell 500cc,and plans to get her own bike. I have an 07 AW that she can have as her own. I was wondering if the women of this forum would think that would be a good idea for her as a first bike. She would need a Reach seat, lowering shocks, and maybe reduced reach controls to assist her though. She's 5'4 115#. Let me know what you think.
Thanks, Woody

My husband bought my 04 vrod for me, and this was my first motorcycle. I am 5'7 so I didn't need any adjustments. I do have the sundowner seat, alot more comfortable. I love my vrod, I get more looks when I am on the vrod, than when I drive my husbands fatboy. I think your wife will do fine.

Most women, including me, start on HD's "small" bike, the Sporty. Some are too afraid of this big bike and start with a Honda Shadow 650. Most of these women trade up after a year of gaining confidence. I bought the VROD in 2003 after 2 years and 9K on my Sporty, so I can say with some authority that putting women on the Sporty is probably the worst move you can make. The Sport has a very high center of gravity compared to the big HDs. I could not believe how easy it was to balance, ride and turn my "big" vrod. Much easier than the sport. Plus the V is weighs just about as much as the Sporty, making it easy to keep up when it's tipping or take off the stand. Any women reading this wondering what to buy, my advice is either start with the really inexpensive and very easy to ride Honda Shadow 650 (and if you like the sport you'll be off that in a year) or swallow any fear you have about getting on a big bike and go for the V or even other HDs. They are a hell of a lot easier to ride, even though they don't look it..
