Default Skull pegs - Aluminum or steel?

My Skull shifter peg is loose and the allen head on the bolt is stripped most likely bythe previous owner. To get it out so I can replace the peg, I was thinking I'd drop a weld on the peg and the bolt then twist off the peg (with the bolt welded to it) since the bolt head is stripped but my neighbor's welder is not set up for aluminum.

So, anyone know if these are aluminum or steel so I can do this? Otherwise, I'll spend a considerable amount of time with a bolt extractor since the head on the bolt is recessed into the peg and still on the bolt. There are other ways, but the weldwould be the easiest as I see it.

Thanks!

The bolt is steel and the peg is probably aluminum. I'd try a screw-out or an easy-out, I doubt welding is going to work. The only way it would is if you welded hot enough to attach to the steel and melt "teeth" into the aluminum, but since the shifter is aluminum I'd not do that.

Find a very sharp metal dril bit that is bigger than the allen bolt head that goes through shifter peg. Support the shift lever and drill until you get past the bolt heads flange. It should pop right off. If it doesn't , try a little bigger drill bit. Once the head breaks off take a pair of pliers and remove the bolts shank.

If you were to weld on the peg, the peg will more than likely just rotate as the bolt is not fixed to the peg , it only passes throught the peg.

Make this easier on your self and remove the shift lever from the bike and place in a vise to work on it. Find some old rubber or soft wood so you don't damage your shift lever.

This is a damn good idea. You will only need a bit bigger than the 5/16 bolt though. I would use one either 11/32" or 3/8", those should be easy to come by. (you could use an O, P, 21/64" Q, R, S, T, 23/64", U, or metric between 8mm and 9.5 mm but they might be harder to come by) The head is probably 7/16" or bigger but it's not necessary to take away from the whole head, just enough to pop it off.
