Default Getting ready to buy a 08 NR Special - few questions

Hi - new guy here - first Harley also.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on an 08 NR Special. Love the look and the ride comfort (coming from sport bikes). This bike will come w/ ABS and alarm (ignition disable).

I have a few questions:

1. Color choice: I am looking at the Black/Orange or the Black/Silver - which is the more 'popular' color scheme?I originally was looking at the orange striped, but a comment from someone as 'too halloweenish' kinda threw me off.
2. Aftermarket: I looked at a catalog and there weren't too many options to customize the bike with.Is this too new for aftermarket products?
3. I noticed very few postings on this forum.Again, is the bike too new?
4. I think I have a pretty good deal as price is concerned - but this is my first HD, so what is the average price or best deal for this bike?

Thanks!

Haha...a couple of newbs....I am 2 to 3 months away from the same..I have ridden all my life but this will be my first HD also...
I rented almost every bike last summer to test the waters...first was the NR special then all the others..last to rent was...NR special...wonderful machine for my purposes.

vividblack/denim or silver would be my choice although I have no issues with the "halloween" look when you pull up in full HD colors...Eff anyone trying to tell me different.

I went to an outdoor vintage auto meet with it and parked in the wallgreens lot...walked around for a couple of hours and I had a crowd of people standing around "my" rented bike..gawking.

Of course I did not tell them it was rented and played the part well..they could tell by the big SEG on my face I wasn't lying....can't wait but gotta clear up some uh humm personal crap first.

I too just ordered an 08 special ABS with orange stripes. This is a great forum but also check out 1130cc.com for Vrod discussions.

If your coming from a sport bike make sure you take it for good ride before you buy it! the bike is very heavy, not much lean angle, and not near as fast as your sport bike. I bought a new 07 last year and took awhile to used to it.

Just bought an 08 NR Special, I have the Black w/ orange stripes. I've always rode big HD, also have an Ultra Classic, thought about a sport bike too hard on my hands. There are accessories for the bike, there were quite a few changes in 07 & 08 so I think the aftermarket is coming slow to get the new fitments. I finally got to sneak out for a ride the other day, its been a little cold here in Michigan, I'm glad I got the 08 with the 1250cc.

my .02

Spend some time and money and find a good painter that will do it for a reasonable price. Make it look like the way you want it to. personally i know a gy that will strip it and paint it flat black for cost of materials (family friend) and my buddy is a very talented at pin stripes so I'm going to have him and put some crazy *** designes on the bike.

Black and Orange are Harley colors and I don't think they look "halloweenish"

Too new and too few being sold as compared to the other lines of Harley-Davidson. Aftermarket is out there, you just need to look for it a little harder than that for a Softail.

Fewer owners visit and participate in this section as compared to the other sections of this forum or on other forums. This is not because of the age of the VRSC line but due to, in large part, because of the lack of acceptance by the majority of air-cooled Harley owners. This is predominately an air-cooled site.

MSRP is the lowest you're realistically going to find for a current year bike. Depending on the market you could be looking at MSRP + $5,000-$7,000

I'm kind of a fan of the Harley "R" colors myself (as you can see) [8D].... And an even bigger fan of the VRSCDX... The dude who made the "Halloweenish" comment must not be a very "Harleyish" cat.... With that said... You need to get the color that makes YOUR eyes pop.... Don't give a second thought to other's opinions on color... That part of the decision should be very personal.

I plan on painint my Road Glide Black and Orange once I am done with the customizing. I think we are going to go with flat black and pin stripes on the vrod once it's done its morph.
