Got a newbie question... I know it will be hard to describe but what does a V-Rod sound like? I like the unique look of them and I seem to remember hearing they don't have the deep rumbling sound as a Fatboy. They do have a good rumble to them right, just not as deep?
My wife owns an 04 Vrod and the sound is not like a harley with a deep rumble. She did change out the pipes to Screamin Eagle version and now it rumbles. The VRod has a style of its own as well as the power to back it up. I would trade my Road King if they use the revolution engine in a touring model.

I dont think a v-rod uses a single pin crank as with the twin cam motors, also the v-rod uses overhead cams, so you wont get the note from them,, that you do with other Harleys, no matter what you do. Its just a different animal.
Go to your nearest Harley Dealer and make your own description of the sound. We have potato-potato-potato.....FInd a veggie that suits the V-ROD.....I would like to hear your version!
The V-Rod has a deep rumble, but the tone is largely determined by the aftermarket exhaust. Many put a performance pipe on the bike, and the exhaust is more authoritative than deep with these kinds of mufflers. The H-D SE mufflers do give it a deep rumble. It is a smooth rumble, unlike carbed big twins. The 60 degree V is very much like the 60 degree V in the Aprilia Superbike. Exotic.
Net, it is an outstanding V-Twin exhaust note. Different, and that is good.
After owning mine for two months, I finally rolled the throttle on (but only up to 7,000) and wow did the sound change! Loved it. Pulled really hard in third, ran out of room and had to back down hard. But the sound is awsome! Can't wait to do it more...
Don't be afraid to bring it to it's 9,000 rpm redline. If you like the way it sounds at 7k you will love 9k. The engine revs so smoothly, you will find yourself hitting the rev limiter if your not watching the tach. The engine doesn't wake up until 5,000 rpm's. I put the Screamin Eagle 16 ga Double Barrels on my V-Rod and they sound awesome. Nice low throaty rumble.
