Wanted some Tire input. Need tires on the wifes V Rod, and have never really cared for the stock Dunlops. Have changed the tires 3 times, always gone back with the stock Dunlops. Was curious about the Metzler Me 880, I have ran these for years on my other bikes but not on the V Rod, just wanting some good feedback. Thanks Marvin
I run 880's on both of my air-cooled bikes, and they came on the V-Rod we just bought.
It's either Avon Cobras or Metz 880's for me, period. bike rolls over easy into turns, no drama, and you can always depend on the traction-rock solid. The Dunlops always felt sloppy to me when you are getting jiggy in the twisties-they are rock hard and made me feel disconnected from the pavement.
If you just want to cruise the boulevard in a straight line(and some people do which is fine), the stock Dunlops will do fine and probably last 15k miles....
I just changed mine over to bridgestone Excedras. The stock dunlops were changed at 14k and replaced with the Metzler's. It was a big improvement over stock. I only got 10K out of the set and the front tire was worn out faster than the rear (even with a occasional burnout) Verdict is out on the bridgestones till I get a few miles on them.
