Questions before purchace
A while back I saw a V-Rod with lowers that are used on the Ultra mounted and saddle bags (leather) on a Night Rod, it was all in black matching color. Has anyone seen this photo or know where I can find it?
Before I say more,, I want all of you to know that it's not my intention to insult the pure form of the V-Rod by cobbling up the bike to make it something else, (a bagger). My goal will be to make it unique in form and function so that it fits me and have smooth dependable power.
second question--Scheduled engine maintenance at 10,000 miles is to adjust the push rods/lifters? Is this true and is this expensive?
third---Tire life (rear)--all things considered, has the same tread life as any other motorcycle or are they sticky and soft for performance reasons?
Forth----I understand that there is models with 5 gallon fuel capacity, what year?
I'm asking these questions here, because I don't want the dealership to know I'm interested, It's like a rabbit telling a vulture---(I cut my leg can you help me?)
Thanks to all,
R.
Lots of other folks have added fairings and bags to the vrods. Ride what you like and make it fit you.
You definitley want the 1250 engine and as long as you get one with that it will have the bigger fuel tank.
Great bikes and pretty dependable as far as bikes go. The fuel guages are bike flakey on some of the early models but I don't trust a guage anyway and keep track on my odometer.
I also recommend the ABS system if you find a bike with it. Its front rear independent and one of the best in the industry.
Good luck!

2. It's at the 15k on the newer models. The book says it's either six or eight hours of labor, so it can be expensive. I like going to mechanics who charge me by how much time it actually takes to do... I think it's really more like a four hour job max.
3. It depends how you drive. I got 15k out of my front tire (probably 3k more than I really should have), but am on my fifth rear tire in as many miles. And about half those miles are on my latest one, because it's been mostly highway riding (as opposed to drag racing).
4. 2007 was the first year of 5 gallons standard, but it's easily swapped on older models.
