I love V-rods.

We've got a baby on the way and I was trying to do the right thing and buy the more financially friendly bike. It wasn't a comfortable night after that... I was a little hot tempered from that point.
So, this weekend there's a big ride, and guess what.... Harley rents bikes! So, for $200 I'm going to rent one for the weekend without telling either of them. Really going to **** the wife off when she thinks I spent $20000 instead of $200.
My question for the V-rod pro's is what one do I rent. The 'Night Rod', or the 'Regular' one. Sorry I don't know the exact names, but I'd appreciate any input you guys have.
Thanks!!! Wish me luck and a happy marriage.
Stock, the Night Rod has more horse than the V-Rod (120 to 115) but evan at 115, the V-Rod is going to outride most anything else, especially your friends Magna. I know this for a fact because my best friend (Lord rest his soul) had a V65, and my EX500 could hang. My brothers bike is faster than my old one and said that I pull away from him in every gear. Any of the VRSC's are going to be quicker.
Both bikes have the 3.7 gallon tank, so if you want to go further between fill-ups, you will have to go for the higher sitting Street Rod. The V-Rod retails for about $2000 more than the Night Rod and about $1000 more than the Street Rod, so if cost is important in your deception, Than the V-Rod would be the better choice.
Both bikes are going to do the job, and my opinion may be a little jaded, but I would put my money on the original, The VRSCA (first choice) or VRSCB V-Rod. Good luck, and have a blast!
HD rules........
Whats a magna anyway........sounds like a little volcano or something stupid!!
i have an A Model V-rod and you can put the bike up against any cruzer on the road and all you will see is them behind you....trust me.......the thing absolutly flys......all the way from 2 K to 9 K the bike just goes faster and faster....it's unreal!!!!!
Close to a year ago now I bought my 03 Gold Key V-Rod with 2500 miles on it for $12,500. That blows away the myth about V-Rods being xpensive (if your satisfied with Used). About a month ago I found this forum and have been enjoying the reading ever since.
The main reason I am writing is the question about a Magna. Its not some kind of volcano thing but a neat little cruiser from Honda (last modle built in 2003 and list price of $7,500) that will blow by your V-rod if you make the smallest mistake. You wont see him in your mirror cause he will be in your blind spot. Miss a shift and he will make you look like a Dork.
I say this from Experience, I had two different ones before finding a V-rod for a fair price.
When I started riding with a bunch of Harley guys one of them had a V-Rod. That was in 2005. I fell in love with the bike when they come out in '02 but could not afford a new one either. When riding with the group once in awhile the V-rod and myself would go at it. I could never get by him but was right there on his fender, if he did as little as not hit his shift point I had him.
I like the technical part of the Magna and V-Rod and always say the V-rod is more Honda than it is Harley. That really pisses off the Harley crowd.
Try 4 valve heads, chain driven overhead cams, transmission integrated with the engine block, water cooled, 180 rear tire, (I put the 180 on the Magna but it fit).
65" wheelbase to 67.5", V-4 750 to V-Twin1130, 509# to 580# dry weight are the major differences.
The Magna will rev 10,500 and is smooth as silk doing it.
From one V-Rod owner to another, If you pull up at a light next to one of those volcanoes, be on your game and don't make a mistake or you will be laffed off the road afterwards, its only a 750.
Just an Old Geezer passing on wisdom to the wise.
Oh yea, the Magna would only go 127 where my V-rod has shown me 134 and has the torque to get there a lot faster from 100 than the Magna.

It just keeps getting better.

They were short in the wheelbase, tall, top heavy, and were Hondas failed answer to the V-Max.
In 1994 (below) they stretched them out, made them chain drive, and put a drum brake on the back to save money but still maintained that awesome V-4. Those are the ones I watch for and make sure the "A" Game is up and running.
As long as I got someone to bite on this after a year I'd like to put some more "2cents worth" in the mix.
My brother bought an 05 VTXF a month before I bought the V-rod. Everyone here is saying how fast the VTX is but I have to disagree with that too. Its way too heavy to be fast. We have had at it side by side and when he is really wound up (I have a way of doing that to him) he has the back tire smokin for 50 to 75 feet very easily while I go by. When he does get it to hook up its about even til around 50mph and it is very embarrassing for him. He even admits to trying to run a freight train. Oh yea, he and I agree with one thing, the Magnas (he had a 99) were faster than the VTX.
