hey guys im new to this forum. i just traded my 06 883c for a 06 VRSCR street rod. i turn the bike on and a engine light comes on and stays on for a few seconds and then goes away. this may sound dumb but i never had this problem with my 883c. any help will be appreciated. thanks
This is normal. It's just like how most cars will have the lights come on in the dash for a period of time when you turn the key on. If the light stays on for longer than five seconds or if it goes off and then relights you need to be concerned.
well it does that but after you actually crank the bike it comes on again and goes off after a few seconds.
If I have it correctly---The light is lit for about 4 seconds, goes out, and then relights for about the same amount of time? That is a stored trouble code that is not currently affecting your engine operation, but something you should figure out, both why it was originally set and what you need to do to prevent it from being set again. Have you removed the airbox top (the plastic part) and started the bike without the air-flow sensor on top hooked up? That's how I learned of the set trouble code, because I took mine to the dealer, only to be told that I didn't need to.
I forgot to add---the light coming on for about 4 seconds also indicates that the fuel system is pressurizing up, and the bike should not be started until the light goes out. If it has happened before, you probably have not hurt anything, but from now on, try to avoid starting the bike until the light goes out---at least the first time it goes out.
I forgot to mention that the light relighting is something that the stealer can clear, if you didn't already know that. I also have heard, but am not sure, that you can disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes to clear the code yourself, but this will also clear your clock and it will have to be reset.
