Had 2 Vrods, an 06A and 2010 Muscle. I had sundowner touring seat for the 06 and it was comfortable. But I also did a 400 mile trip on my muscle and no complaints on the stock seat. If he's used to riding Evos or big twins he will notice a big difference, The vrod likes the high rpms. Also, one of the primary changes I did w/ both bikes are the pipes. The stock pipes are just too quiet. The Vrod comes with tach built in (which is a plus), fuel gauge and it's liquid cooled.
BTW, I believe the pre-07 Vrods have smaller gas tanks, and ABS was available 08up IIRC.
My 2010 muscle...I miss it!

I LOOOOOOVE my 09 Night Rod Special. Just bought it two-weeks-ago brand new and already have 1,000 miles on it. Longest day was 350 miles and I could easily have done 350 more. I do not yet have any mods except for the detachable Harley bags, though I ordered the windscreen. Stock seat is excellent.
Also, I'm 43-years-old with troublesome neck and shoulder issues, and was concerned about the DX riding position. I planned to get the reach bar and pegs and the Sundowner seat, and may still do the seat, but so far I'm very happy with the stock pegs and drag bars.
