Default VROD questions

I currently have a 2008 Ultra
Love the bike but I am not "touring" as much as I used to.
Maybe I just need a different ride, so I was looking at the VRODS.
Can someone give me, go easy on me, a little lesson on the different models
I see there is a 2012 ANNV model
What do most do to their VROD when they get, beside ride it
I know for the touring bikes it's Stage 1 and Pipes
Also have there been any "bad" years or for that matter "better" years for the VROD

Thanks

Well I am not the foremost VROD expert. I have a 2010 VRSCAW, ABS, with Security system. Other than that stock. I'm adding a detachable windshield which is coming and if the bolts every get off back order installing a base plate so I can add a luggage rack. If you buy a VROD you want one with the 5 gallon tank. I think 2007 and above. The gas gauges are unreliable and you need to figure gas left by the trip meter not the gauge. The ABS is awesome, and I won't buy another new bike that does not have it. I had a Dyna Street Bob and Sportster before that. VROD a lot smoother ride. 125 horsepower stock. So you can put pipes and tune it if you want but how much faster than 125 MPH do you need to go? Some people put the Superbrace on them. They say it stops the wobbles. I have never noticed a wobble yet. Engine seems bulletproof, and the water cooling makes all the difference in the summer. If you are going to ride it on long trips some type of pad for the seat might be nice. Battery is smaller than on touring bikes, so you might want a battery tender if you can't ride it a few times in the winter to keep it up. The battery does not come out nearly as easy as on the big bikes. It is doable but takes (at least me 30 minutes) and you have to be careful putting it back in. But not a major deal. It only has one hole for oil, oil changes a little easier. I have not done my first oil change yet (only 400 miles), but some people say you need to remove the radiator shroud to easily change the filter. IMHO it is the best bike Harley makes, I don't have to lean over like a crouch rocket to ride it, and it's a pretty bike get lots of thumbs up. Mine is Black Pearl Ice. P.S. 1130CC website has a lot more VROD info. The bikes were 1130CC originally now 1250CC hence the website name.

Just commented on your thread in the touring section, I would look at 07-up aw models but if you can swing it get the anniversary edition out this year. The night rod and muscle don't have a very comfortable touring position but that can be changed. Check out VMOD.com for accessories

Thanks, I saw it
Don't really care for all the Silver and Chrome in the Anniversary model
I like an all blacked out bike, I have to look at one at a dealer and see what it looks like.

You can probably find a blacked out Night Rod Special NRS 2010 and at the right dealer maybe able to get a discount. I don't know about the riding position on the NRS's again on 1130CC.com lots of folks can give you better answers than me. Lots of nice used bikes out there . For what it is worth, I don't like the look of the Anniversary edition bike either. Good luck.

I think the NRS all blacked out is the best right now but if you can find an 08 D ( Nightrod). I think that's the best V-rod ever pout out. Bigger engine, bigger tank, 240 rear but still has the Mid Controls .

I still get along just fine with my 06D and got it for a steal a few years ago . I'm trying to black it out as much as possible as that's the look I like .

You can't go wrong with any of them I like the Muscle as I think they intended it to be a bagger and it looks real nice set up that way but still has great performance.

The 2008 Night Rod (VRSCD) does not have a 240 rear tire, it has the 180.
The 240 is on the Night Rod Special (VRSCDX)

I think I like the improvements that they have made to the 2012's
If I am going to do this I may go all the way with an 2012;

NEW Black Split 5-Spoke Cast Aluminum wheels with orange pinstripe are three pounds lighter than previous wheels
NEW Tapered tail section with flush-mount LED taillight
NEW Pullback handlebar places controls three inches closer to the rider and optimizes overall feel with a low, wide position.
NEW Reduced reach, forward-mounted rider footpegs
NEW Inverted front forks
NEW Two-up seat with custom stitching
NEW Stylized black speed screen visor
NEW Slim design, center-mount license plate
NEW Graphics
