I really do need tires ASAP, so I'm thinking about just pulling the trigger on these as 1) they're really my last "big" mod besides maybe cams an a tuner, and 2) both front and rear are the price of a single front aftermarket wheel...

Guess it's time for me to start reading again!
If you're going to get new rubber, get the Pirelli's. They are hands down the BEST tire available.

WAAAAAAAY Better. I've ridden Avon's, Metz, B-Stone, Dunlops, Michelins, and Pirellis. Pirelli offers the best tire for the money. The Cobras are decent, but once the tread starts to wear they get slippery and unpredictable. Pirelli's hold true till the end. Always predictable, always grippy, good tread life, great in the wet.
