Default New to the community, new to HD

Hey everyone, I'm John and I'm the fanoogie aka FNG. I am brand new to this forum/HD community as well as a new owner of a HD motorcycle. I am a previous sportbike owner/rider and took a few years off from riding but just recently received my step-dad's pride and joy for Christmas--a 1960 Sportster XLH900.

Being that I am brand new to this community I figured I would post an initial into first and then start to dive into the forums to learn more about my bike and the HD community. This bike is brand new to me (also in great condition) so I will lean heavily on this forum at times so that I can learn the proper DOs and DON'Ts and much more.

If anyone has any quick advice or questions, shoot me a message!

Copied over from a later post because I wasn't sure that anyone was seeing it:
Fellow riders, few questions for you in here rather than creating a new thread. Is there a good starting point in this forum to help new HD riders along? Not necessarily a thread geared towards new members of the site, but one more for new HD owners? I was perusing around to find an etiquette thread or something similar to help me learn things that might be of interest, perhaps the "unwritten rules" of the road, etc.

My step dad was a very loyal HD enthusiast and has more HD cycles than I can probably remember or count and he would have been the perfect person to ask a lot of my noob questions, but... I don't have him around for me to ask these types of things and there aren't really many others in my family that would know. I feel like with him, and most HD riders, I've always had this impression that they were sort of a bit more judgmental towards other riders, to include other HD riders. I'm not saying that he WAS judgmental towards others, but he was so particular about his motorcycles and what could/couldn't be done with them sometimes that it just sort of gave the impression that there were a set of rules to follow (or use as a guide) when owning a Harley. The only thing I really remember him specifically saying was something in the ballpark of never wanting Chinese parts on his bike, which isn't exactly a HD specific feeling. I guess what I'm getting to is that I don't want to make any rookie mistakes with this bike now that I own it and have other HD riders look at me like what did he do!? This bike in a way is living on in his honor so I just don't want to do anything to it that he would be lose his mind over haha. Hopefully some of you understand what I mean! Sorry for the long winded post, I just figured this would be a better place to start rather than creating a new thread.

Thanks, everyone! I'm getting used to navigating around now, trying to find others with threads and questions that are related to my bike.
