Default Hot ground wire
What would cause the ground wire on my 1983 Ironhead 1000 xlx to get hot when I try to start it

Welcome to the Forum lots of great info here enjoy and learn or brush up a bit from Stuart Fl. Ride a Lot Ride Safe.
Bad connection somewhere check them all look for loose wires or even a bad ground wire. Try a new one

I Replaced the old battery with a new one and now every time I try to start it the ground wire gets so hot it starts to melt the battery

Current flows to ground so I'd clean the ground to frame and the rest of the battery connections also, look for loose or dirty.

Now back to our regular welcome wagon replies.
