Thanks for that great Texan welcome. I nearly made it to Houston but it was only because I took the wrong freeway in Dallas!!! I was trying to get back to Richardson.
Cheers

It’s been a lot of years, but I lived in Oxford for two years, and visited Gloucester many times. You have some beautiful places to ride. Enjoy whichever bike you choose. Welcome from Jax Fl.
Thanks Mike, Oxford is a lovely place to hang out for a couple of years and you are right, we do have great roads to ride. Not for the bigger Harleys maybe but for the likes of the Sportster, Fat Boy, Street Bob etc. they are great. Even on my big CTX1300 they are good because the thing is so nimble, you'd not believe it was so heavy when you are riding it.
Our daughter is in the RAF and just been posted to Brize Norton, which you will know from going back and forth Oxford to Gloucester. It's the main transport hub for military personnel in the UK to all destinations abroad.

I'll keep you up to speed with how the test ride goes, if they don't sell it during the coming week!
Cheers
Dave

Interesting, I myself did 32 years in the RAF spending 7 years at Brize Norton on the VC10 Tankers. Left in 2010.

A Sportster was my first foray into Harley-Davidson, quite a few people myself included outgrow a Sportster quite quickly. 12 months after purchasing an ex-demo I hankered after something I could go farther afield on taking pillion. Whilst not as old as yourself I too am showing signs of an active life with aches and pains and I am currently awaiting a knee replacement, nevertheless you may find some of the larger Harley-Davidsons not to be an issue as the centre of gravity on some is so low together with the seat height. Mine weighs in ballpark at 1000lbs but find no issue with it whatsoever. Air ride suspension also helps as you can drop the height at the flick of a switch. Just a snippet for you to ponder over. Go test ride any that catches your eye would be my advice if possible then make a definitive decision. Be warned however Harley-Davidsons are a 'warts 'n' all' type vehicle, if you want a silky smooth gear change and no foibles stick with Honda or another Japanese marque. Personally I love my Harley 'warts 'n' all' and it is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden over longer distances. I spent 12 hours in the saddle last June and covered 570 miles in a single day, whilst mentally fatigued I had no physical aches or pains whatsoever getting off. I could not even have considered that distance on any of my previous historical bikes in just over 40 years of motorcycling in a single hit.

Hey ---------- there is someone sitting in ur bike. Tell that chap to get the hell off!!!! (And he is ugly too.!!!)

G'day mate,

welcome to HDF.

I will be your tour guide. Be sure to read the manual before posting ok mate?

Or we will have discipline you and if you don't "get it" we will need to discipline you biker style.

Here is a gift for you… LOL! “I so funi!”

Now let’s get serious for your orientation. Go down the hall on your left to the 1st room. No, wait. The 1st room on your right. That is where the commissary is.

Then you will see doors marked for the mortuary, skeet shooting, a room where we make fun of In-Jun bikes, and of course we have a ahh, umm, oh yeah a across the hall.

We had a BOMB MAKING room but, well, ahhhhh, 1 of the guys just didn't understand Blasting Caps very well so..... you know.

We have our own pub .

There are several places where you can familiarize your self with the .

So don't be a wall flower watching others . Get involved.

See you around mate. I am going to the commissary now.

**** ON THE SERIOUS SIDE ****

**** I AM NOT ONE TO GIVE ADVICE ON HOW HDF WORKS BUT… ****
**** AND THE FOLLOWING IS UNOFFICIAL ****

You are in the “New Members Area” where you can introduce yourself and let us know what Harley Davidson bike(s) (if any) you ride/own.

If you have questions about engines, exhaust systems, audio issues, etc… then:

1) Please go to the upper corner and Roll Over “Forums”

2) Then come down to and Roll Over “Harley Davidson Tech & Mechanical Forum”

3) Then come down to the section that would be most appropriate for your question like Audio Systems, Engine Mechanical Topics, Exhaust System Topics, etc… and CLICK on the topic you have a question about.

You will find the knowledge here is EXCELLENT and these here mates are willing to help you in any way they can. ‘juss be careful. There are some “Trolls”, so I suggest just ignoring them ‘ole farts.

See you around HDF. Come often, we have a humor thread, game thread, and a LOT of other stuff.

Have A Great Day Mate,

BuzzCap7
