New from Augusta, GA..NEED HELP
Riding cross-country, bike was running perfect, after 1,300 miles cruising at 85mph my bike began to lose power and slowly stalled out as i pulled to the side of the road. Checked oil, added one quart. Could never get the bike to start up again. It will turn over but wont start. It sounds like the timing is very tight and not firing at the correct time, it is stalling the starter...but as you can see in the picture it is exactly where it is supposed to be. I took the bike to harley where they installed a new OEM ECU but it didnt help at all.
Got the bike towed home to GA where my mechanic friend has checked the following...
- charged battery
- checked for codes, none
- checked compression, both cylinders perfect
- checked timing on S&S gear driven, good
- checked spark on both cylinders, good
- checked injector pulse, good
- checked fuel pressure, good
- new crankshaft position sensor
He noticed when the ignition wires are disconnected the engine will spin over all day long and never stall starter.
As soon as you install the plug wires and attempt to doing bike over it will stall starter like the timing is off and or its firing to early on the compression stroke. Not having much experience with Harleys he looked into what fires the coil and injector and came to conclusion that the crank sensor could be reading TDC at the wrong time. He checked resistance on the crank sensor and decided to try one. No dice. Still does the same thing. He truly believes the issue is with the timing as you can remove the plug wires and it sounds perfectly fine. He has a full auto shop with every piece of diagnostic equipment so please offer some suggestions. Will respond ASAP! Are we over looking something. Thanks in advance!
