I'm so sorry to hear about your son, there just aren't any words. It's hard enough when they all grow up and move out, been over a year for my wife and I and I still can't get used to no kids around. I can't even imagine what you are going through. You have my best wishes.

I have a 99 hugger 883 thatI converted to a 1200 with 12:1 compression. It has unbeleviable power and handles ausom in the corners. Not bad on the highway, 5 speed trany keeps it up with the rest at a little higher rpm. gets 43 mpg. I ride it all year long as a commuter unless there is actual snow on the ground. It is deffanatly affected with 2nd rider, you can feel every move they make and shocks really groan on bumps (what do you expect, the bike weighs less then 500 lbs). I have a 93 springer FXSTS that handles like a dream with 2 people. much heaver bike so you cant feel much going on back there. not as fast as the sporster from start but maintains the road speed at a lesser rpm and gets 50 mpg even though it is a bigger motor (1340 cc). But I have to spend 2 hours wipen down that one after evey ride so it is a fair weather rider for me. Good luck on your search, bottem line for 2 person rider, Sportster is ok for short distance but big twin would be much better for long distance.
