Default Back on two wheels. Greetings from NC.

Hello everyone out there. Greetings from Vass, NC. Right next to Fort Bragg (Fort Liberty now). So a little bit about myself. I spent 20 years 5 months and eight days in the US Army as a Military Police soldier. I retired Jan 1, 2018 out of Fort Stewart GA. I got my first bike when I got back from Iraq in 2004. 2004 ZX-6R, then a 2007 CBR-1000RR Repsol (Nicky Hayden edition). Sold both and then got 2009 HD Fatbob (First HD) and 2009 CBR-1000 RR Repsol. Traded the Fatbob in for a 2010 HD Street Glide in denim black (worst color ever to clean). Got YZ-450F (only for like three months before it almost killed me). In 2012 I had a really bad knee injury on drill sergeant duty at Fort Benning. I ended up having to sell my bikes, which at the time was only the 2009 CBR and the HD street glide. I spent almost 6 years off a bike. Then in 2018 after I retired I picked up a KTM Super Duke GT. That bike had so many gremlins if the battery got low it was not funny. At the time my job didn't allow me to ride that much and after having the bike for three years it only had 3000 miles on it and sat in the garage. So I sold it.

That brings us to today. Today I have a great retirement job at my daughters private school where I work Monday thru Friday 7-4 with every night weekend and holiday off. Back in June my brother road his 2019 Street Glide from Massachusetts to my house and I decided to run him over to our local dealership to pick up a shirt. Well as soon as we walked in my wife started looking at new bikes. So after talking to the sales rep (must have really needed to sell a bike) he got me into a 2023 Street Glide Special in the gray haze. They took $2500 off the bike and threw in a king tour pack.

So that is where I am at right now. Sitting in the middle of a NC freeze wanting to ride the bike but regulated to sitting on the couch typing this. LOL!

First ride with the little one.

Welcome Michael.

Hope you continue to enjoy your ride here with us on the HDFORUM.

Only as a suggestion, but very important, create a signature line similar to mine with your year, model, and all the letters Harley assigned to your bike. It will appear at bottom of your post.

You can also add a favorite picture to the signature line.

Doing this will be helpful if you ask a question or someone asking a question. All Harleys aren't the same with many changes and variations over the years.

Welcome from Spartan Country, Michigan!
I tell a lot of new comers to the forum to get: Factory Service manual and the Parts manual. Take to an office supply store and have them put a spiral binder in place of the glued binder. That will let the manuals lay flat on your bench. Get a three ring binder and record all your maintenance, repairs, accessories, etc. This will be a great reminder of what was done when. And great material to pass along to the new owner should you sell and upgrade. Also know how large your fuel tank is, a rough idea of your range per tank, and record your fuel usage. I have an app called Simply Auto that I record all my fuel used. I use the odometer and use the fuel gage as reference only. I reset the odometer to zero on fill ups, and I know I can safely get 200 miles on a tank on around town riding, and upwards of 230+ on trips.
