You're gonna get a hundred different opinions on this. there's lots of variables. How big/tall are you?

I think the dyna superglide or lowrider would be a great choice. they're not too big, and very nimble.

Welcome Chris,

I moved you over here to the New Members section so everyone could meet you. This is a great forum with lots of friendly and knowledgeable members. I'm sure you will get many responses to your question.

The best advice I can give you is to try out numerous bikes until you find that one that makes you smile. Like Wally said, the Dyna line are great bikes. The Softails are also great with lots to choose from like the heritage, fatboy, deluxe and many more. Then you got the baggers, my personal favorite.

Get what fits your needs and have a great time.

Chris, welcome to the forum and I have to second the dyna superglide or lowrider . You'll keep it for a long time without having to move up to a bigger bike.

Go test ride a few. The minute you tell a Dealer that money is not an option hold on to your hat.lmao

I couldn't get a sales guy to make eye contact with me when I went to a dealer, guess I looked poor.lol

First bike!?! My suggestion to a newbe would be to get a ricer to practice on (while you're taking the local MSF course) until you're confident enough to get a HD. The reason is if you should make a mistake then seeing the ricer slide down the road doesn't hurt as much as seeing your HD throwing sparks off the pavement.

However in your case I'd say buy the HD with the governments money and then buy a cheap *** ricer with a small amount of your own cash to practice on.

Welcome from England.

Go to your dealer and test ride all the bikes that you like the look of, you will probably like them all, I know I did but at least you will be able to make a decision based on your own experience and feelings. I tried a Street Bob, Heritage Softail Classic and a Road King. I am not the most experienced rider but I found them all quite easy to ride.

Good luck with your choice

I agree go sit on the ones you like and test ride those. You will find the one that you like. Also what are you planning to do with it. Long touring rides, or around town and some 200 mile rides. All if this and more will come into play when you make your final decision.
